Baby's first ABC

One of the ESL teachers I work with is about to go on maternity leave so I was given the job of doing a quilt top for her farewell present. One of the other ladies at work is going to be do the quilting.
Purple is her favourite colour, so it was the perfect choice for the background. We're all quite sure the nursery will have a strong purple theme.
Layout took a long time. I think it was because there were two lots of three items. It didn't look right when they were completely symmetrical, so I kept moving and moving till it looked better. Originally the butterfly was going to be the only addition, but in the end I had to include the snail to keep it a bit more balanced.

Tom's animals

Back in October I mentioned I'd just finished a quilt for baby Lauren. As I thought about sending it I realised that I'd never done one for her big brother Thomas. I had a quick look at my stash of fabric but couldn't find anything particularly boyish. However I did discover these animal prints amongst some of the fabric I got in South Africa in 2011. Perfect I thought - and perfect it was! I found out at Christmas time that Tom has this fascination with lions, tigers, and any other wild animals that roar loudly :)

Strip-along quilt

In November I did a workshop at the local craft shop on strip-along quilts. As usual what looks very complicated was way easy, and I'd half finished the blocks before the end of the workshop. It then took me the rest of the week to find the time to do the rest and put it all together.
